Frances Boyd: I have known Madeleine since 2008. She was, in fact, the first friend I made after moving full time to Kiawah. While I can certainly vouch for Madeleine as being a friend I can turn to at any time, how do I know that she will be an effective member of the Town Council?
Here’s why—I have never seen Madeleine as enthusiastic about anything as she has been
about being a member of the Town Planning Commission. From day one, she has spent
hours educating herself on every issue that involves the Town. She carefully reads
documents. She talks to people on all sides. She listens and reserves comment until she is sure
she fully grasps the complexity of the topic. And she works to build consensus rather than
conflict. She’s exactly the person we need right now on the Kiawah Island Town Council.
Diane Flaherty: I have known Madeleine for many years as both a golf and a personal friend, and more recently through my participation as a property owner in Planning Commission workshop meetings. I view Madeleine to be thoroughly informed, unbiased and very professional in her role as a member of the Planning Commission. I believe she is exceptionally well prepared to serve on the Kiawah Town Council and would bring a balanced perspective to Council meetings.
Michael Heidingsfelder: I had the privilege to work very closely with Madeleine while on the Planning Commission in 2022 and more recently on the KICA-TOKI ARB Work Group. I was able to experience first-hand how incredibly hard she works to get tasks done. She is detailed in her knowledge and understanding of important matters, looks at all the different viewpoints, listens carefully what other team or community members have to say and remains wonderfully calm when things can get heated … and then has this gift of bringing people together. Because she knows what she is talking about, people listen to what she has to say … and then are willing to join the consensus she is carving out of the discussion. Madeleine has contributed greatly as a volunteer to our wonderful community and she will do so in the same productive way when elected to the Town Council of our island.
Beverly Fieroh: Over the past year, I have gotten to know Madeleine on the KICA/TOKI Joint Task Force for ARB Relationship Review. I am confident that as a TOKI council member, Madeleine would bring the same boundless energy, thoughtful analysis, dynamic communication skills, and integrity as she has with the ARB task force. My experience is that Madeleine does what she says she will do, and that is why I can wholeheartedly recommend Madeleine for TOKI council.
Mimi Sturgill: I served on the Our World Committee with Madeleine for a number of years. As our committee chair, she was always well organized, well prepared and open to committee members' ideas and suggestions. When she chose to step down as chairperson, it took three of us to replace her!! I support her candidacy for Kiawah Town Council member.
Ron Curran: I have had the privilege of working with Madeleine for the past year on the Town of Kiawah Island Planning Commission. I am so impressed with Madeleine and I fully support her candidacy for the TOKI Town Council. Madeleine is intelligent and a very hard worker. She is diligent and her contributions are always insightful. Madeleine is sensitive and responsive to the Kiawah community. She has been a strong advocate to preserving the natural beauty of the Island. Lastly, Madeleine is genuine and honest, and you can trust what she says.
Laura Vanderwerker: Madeleine is a long-time neighbor and friend who I respect greatly for her
commitment to making our Island a better place. Since moving to Kiawah, she has been involved in
various committees and organizations with the end goal of improving our quality of life. She has
been instrumental in the success of Our World. She has served on the Planning Commission, not
a committee on which many people are willing to serve. I know her as someone who listens,
who respects the opinions of others and who acts thoughtfully, not impulsively. Add to those
qualities a deep love for Kiawah and you will see that electing Madeleine to Town Council would
be a win for our Island
Kevin Donlon: I appreciated Madeleine’s significant and constructive contributions as a member of the KICA/TOKI Joint ARB Work Group. More importantly, her thoughtful, diligent and collegial work ethic will make her a productive and effective member of town council.
Cynthia Hadley: I have been truly impressed by Madeleine's contributions to the Planning Commission. Her meticulous research and thoughtful responses to crucial issues demonstrate a deep understanding of Kiawah Island. I am confident that she possesses the capability to comprehend and address important matters that will be presented to the town council. Additionally, her collaborative approach with fellow council members positions her well to find effective solutions. I believe she would be a great addition to the current town council.
Joanne Hennessy: I heartily endorse Madeleine for Town Council! I have worked closely with her for the past two years and can attest to her open-mindedness and willingness to listen to others and work collaboratively for the best solution for the community. She is always willing to adjust her position if she hears a perspective she hadn’t considered. We need that type of thinking on the Town Council.
Gaye Stathis: I strongly support Madeleine for Town Council. She has the background and experience serving with many critical groups here on Kiawah, notably her 3 years on the Town Planning Commission. At this critical juncture in the future of our island, Madeleine has the credentials and body of work critical to our future.
